BMW Group in South Africa.
In 1973 we as BMW Group, took our first steps within the South African market by establishing and building Plant Rosslyn.
For the first time we have invested in building a plant outside the European borders, which by today within the fields of production, sales and financial services for the BMW brand of motor vehicles, including motorcycles and MINI, over 3.000 associates call their workplace.
With our facilities in Midrand (Sales Headquarter) and Pretoria (Plant Rosslyn), as well as many dealerships and first-tier suppliers we are constantly building and strengthening our local and international network and therefore are an important sector of the entire BMW Group.
To promote sustainability BMW South Africa has signed a power purchasing agreement with energy company Bio2Watt (Pty) Ltd in 2014. The off-take partnership brings renewable energy to Plant Rosslyn where by now, since the project has started in 2015, between 25% and 30% of Plant Rosslyn’s electricity requirements are generated from renewable sources. Additionally in 2015 our Headoffice in Midrand has been awarded a 5-star rating by the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) for being environmentally friendly. The rating makes BMW South Africa the first automotive company in South Africa to receive this rating.
Since 1994, BMW has invested more than R10-billion in its production facility in Rosslyn and has led the industry in a number of respects in terms of production and export. Our announcement in November 2015 of another investment into the manufacturing of the BMW X3 is further proof of our commitment to South Africa and its people.
We are now already over 43 years committed to the South African market and therefore we see us, the BMW Group, as an engaged corporate citizen dedicated to the upliftment of South Africa and its people.
